Bexar County election officials give runoff election updates

Election updates will be livestreamed in this article at 7 p.m. Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Elections Department is providing runoff election updates on Saturday.

After outlasting 25 other candidates, San Antonio residents will choose between Rolando Pablos and Gina Ortiz Jones for mayor and vote for districts 1, 6, 8 and 9 in the June 7 runoff election.

The winning mayoral candidate will succeed Mayor Ron Nirenberg, who has served the city’s top spot since 2017 and can’t seek reelection due to term limits.

UPDATE (2 p.m.)

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, Carew said there is a 15% turnout for early voting and Election Day, with 125,944 voters.

According to Carew, the runoff has already surpassed the May election, and the city is looking at breaking records.

There have been no issues with voting so far, Carew said.

UPDATE (9 a.m.):

Carew said 4,133 voters have cast a ballot as of 9 a.m. on June 7. With a 12.1% turnout for early voting, she said the city has already surpassed turnout for the May 3 election.

The city is on track to hit upwards of 14% to 15% voter turnout for the runoff election, Carew said.

“This just goes to show that the voters of the City of San Antonio are eager, they’re ready to go, and we’re ready to have them come by and see us,” Carew said.

There was a total of 834,759 registered voters in the May 3 election, which has increased to 841,653 for the June 7 runoff, Carew said.

Carew said libraries have been popular voting sites, but election officials are seeing increases everywhere.

“It seems that everyone is seeing an uptick,” Carew said. “So it just goes to shows people in San Antonio are excited and ready to elect their next mayor and council members.”
